William A. Galston
William A. Galston is an opinion columnist for the Wall Street Journal. He writes the weekly Politics and Ideas column. Currently, he is also a professor at the University of Maryland. In the past, Galston was a Saul Stern Professor and was the acting dean at the University of Maryland, School of Public Policy. He was also the director of the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy. He was the founding director for CIRCLE (Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement and an executive director of the National Commission on Civil Renewal. From 1993 to 1995 he was the Deputy Assistant to President Clinton for Domestic Policy. Galston has written eight books and 100 plus articles on political theory, public policy, and American politics. He is a frequent guest for NPR and appears on television networks often. Galston has won an American Political Science Association’s Hubert H. Humphrey Award and he was also elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2004. He currently holds the Ezra K. Zilkha Chair in the Brookings Institution’s Governance Studies Program. Galston was a policy advisor to President Clinton and other presidential candidates. Galston is considered an expert on domestic policy, political campaigns, and elections.
